Mt. Lorette

  • Description

    The south ridge of Mt. Lorette is a highly recommended moderate alpine rock route that hikes, scrambles, and climbs through some very beautiful terrain with some extra airy (exposed) sections found on the peak’s narrow ridge. Using the Troll Falls approach the round trip stats are approx. 12.5km with 1150m of elevation gain/loss. A mountain bike is highly recommended for the Troll Falls approach.

  • Directions

    Kananaskis Country. From Canmore drive East into K-Country (Hwy. 40S) toward Nakiska Ski Hill and park at the Troll Falls parking lot (54km one-way). Alternatively, park adjacent the route and cross the Kananaskis River.
  • Approach

    From Troll Falls parking lot bike roughly 4km along the cut-line and then scramble up through trees and steep slope to the base of the route. You can also ford the Kananaskis River but this can be extra difficult during periods of high waters.

  • Descent

    From the summit, descend the N. ridge heading toward the prominent scree gully on the SE side of the mountain. Then gain the cut-line and retrace your approach steps.
